MUCH IMPROVED BUS SERVICE FOR CAMBOURNE

1 May 2002

An enhanced bus service linking Cambridge and St Neots via Cambourne Village, Cambourne Business Park and St Neots has been launched this week.

This much needed bus service is being introduced following a partnership between the developers of Cambourne Village and Cambourne Business Park, Cambridgeshire County Council and Stagecoach.

The enhancements include stops at Lower Cambourne and the Cambourne Business Park itself.

Shona Johnstone, Cabinet member for Cambridgeshire County Council, says: "We were only too aware of the complaints about the poor bus service, from those living in Cambourne, and have been looking at ways and means of providing a much improved service.

"Following discussions to resolve the situation with Stagecoach and the developers of both Cambourne Village and the Business Park, we are pleased that the bus operators will now offer a new service which will benefit the residents of Cambourne, those working on the Business Park and the surrounding villages."

"We have a number of companies now working on the Business Park and as part of our Green Travel Plan have a requirement to encourage their employees to leave their cars at home and travel to work by alternative means of transport. What was needed was a reliable regular bus service that actually came into the Business Park. We are delighted that this service has been introduced," says Lesley Scobell, 'Travel to Work' Co-ordinator at Cambourne Business Park.

Updated timetables are available by contacting Cambridgeshire County Council's Bus Line on 01223 717740, or from Cambourne Business Park.
