International Fact Finding Mission comes to Cambourne
27 May 2002
A multinational delegation recently met Cambridgeshire County Council officials at Cambourne Business Park on a fact finding mission.
The delegation, which was mainly from the Swedish city of Karlstad, Sweden, also included representatives from Norway and the Netherlands. They visited the settlement and business park on May 27 as an example of a high tech new centre for modern working.
Cambridgeshire County Council is making a joint £2m million bid to the European Union with Karlstad (Sweden) and Perugia (Italy) for a major 3 year project to implement modern and flexible working practices.
Cambridgeshire County Council's Trading Standards plan to move to new Cambourne offices; which will form a project showcase and will be built and run on environmentally friendly and sustainable principles.
Cambridgeshire County Councillor, Shona Johnstone, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, who welcomed the international delegation said: "It is a very exciting project that will lead to greater benefits for both staff and service users. We warmly welcome our EU colleagues who will not only be gathering information about our plans but also discussing the best way forward for this project. The aim is to share information and learning about practical measures for staff and customers that will bring about sustainable life styles - such as enabling flexible work patterns, choice of travel alternatives to the car, reducing the need to travel whilst improving customer access to better services. The new Trading Standards offices will be a beacon example of these principles."
The project is part of the County Council's commitment to the Office Modernisation and Renaissance scheme.
