Research Quarter Lunch

20 Mar 2003

Cambourne Business Park and the Eastern Region Biotech Initiative (ERBI) recently hosted a lunch at the Park for CEOs and Senior Executives of local biotech companies and venture capitalists.

The purpose of the lunch was to explain how the Research Quarter was being developed at Cambourne following months of consultation with major occupiers, agents and consultants led by leading laboratory architects Saunders Boston.

The new R&D phase of Cambourne Business Park will ultimately feature 320,000 sq.ft of high quality office and laboratory accommodation to be developed in three major phases. The first phase will comprise some 125,000 sq.ft of laboratory accommodation in a minimum of three and a maximum of four buildings.

As Daniel Van Gelder, Associate Director of Development Securities Projects Limited, explained to the key players at the lunch: "This development is a direct response to the growing demand for laboratory space in the area and will give East of England life sciences companies a unique opportunity to move into bespoke lab facilities."

"This is an exciting venture for us all and one we hope will be seen as a major breakthrough in providing much needed dedicated laboratory space to help the Europe-leading East of England biotech cluster close the gap on world leader, the US. We will be the first to design and speculatively build a true generic laboratory."
