INVESTMENT IN ART AT CAMBOURNE BUSINESS PARK
10 Jun 2003
Artists will be based on the site creating public art and related projects enabling Cambourne Business Park and its architects to explore opportunities for working with artists to enrich both the long term physical quality and community values within the development. The creative collaboration between the artists and the architect is also intended to facilitate skills sharing and new approaches for both parties.
Employees of companies at Cambourne Business Park, along with residents in Cambourne, will have opportunities to get involved in various projects during the initiative.
Two artists have now been appointed Taslim Martin and Becky Shaw. Commissions East will manage the development of the permanent work of art being created within the Business Park by Taslim Martin, while Wysing Arts is managing the creation of temporary art work and the participatory programme lead by artist Becky Shaw. Both artists have the offer of studio and residential accommodation at Wysing Arts for the duration of the 12-month project.
Peter Tullin, Regional Director of Arts & Business East said: “This innovative project will utilise the arts as a tool to help provide a creative and stimulating working environment for the people who work there. Alongside this, the initiatives for local residents will demonstrate how business can make a positive contribution to the development of this new community.”
Peter Jarman of Wrenbridge Land, joint developer with Development Securities plc of Cambourne Business Park, added: “From day one we set out to develop a Business Park with its own unique identity. The award-winning buildings, landscaped surroundings and our involvement with the Cambourne community, its artists and musicians are all proof of our long-term commitment to bringing business and the arts closer together.”
