Cambourne Business Park is a joint venture between Development Securities PLC and local company Wrenbridge Land Ltd. The company has pledged its support for the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough by joining its corporate membership scheme. Working together, the two organisations are planning a series of events, which local residents and employees of the Business Park can get involved with. These events will encourage people to get outside and enjoy the green spaces, which the Wildlife Trust will be developing for both wildlife and people.
Lesley Scobell, who accepted the corporate member certificate on behalf of the Business Park from Nick Hammond, Director of the Wildlife Trust, said: “The Business Park already has its own wildlife initiatives including bird and bat boxes and a natural pond. We hope to use the services of the Trust's community officer for advice and information on how to encourage more wildlife to these facilities.”
Nick Hammond is delighted with the new relationship; “We are pleased to welcome Cambourne Business Park as new corporate members. Businesses are influential members of the community and it is very important that they take environmental issues seriously. By working with the Wildlife Trust, we can secure the future of our wildlife and our green spaces, which are important for us all. I sincerely hope that other businesses based in Cambourne, will follow the lead taken by Cambourne Business Park.”
Cambridgeshire, like much of the region is facing increasing pressure for new development. But this does not necessarily mean disaster for wildlife. Cambourne is an ideal model of housing, business and wildlife coexisting and benefiting from each other. The Trust hopes that other new settlements in the region will follow a similar model.
