Royal visitor officially opens South Cambridgeshire Hall
10 Jun 2005
The Duke of Edinburgh officially opened South Cambridgeshire District Council’s award winning, environmentally friendly offices at Cambourne Business Park on Thursday 9 June.
The Duke of Edinburgh arrived at South Cambridgeshire Hall and was greeted by District Councillors and senior officers including new leader Councillor Sebastian Kindersley, chairman Councillor Cecily Murfitt and chief executive John Ballantyne. The Royal party toured the building where the Duke was introduced to staff and councillors, and inspected some of the environmentally friendly features of the building. The tour ended with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the reception area. South Cambridgeshire District Council moved to Cambourne in May 2004. The move to the state-of-the-art building brought council staff together from three different locations in the drive to provide better customer service and improved efficiency. John Ballantyne said, “We’re very proud to be providing services to our communities from South Cambridgeshire Hall and are honoured to welcome the Duke of Edinburgh to officially open the building.”
