Organic deliveries to Cambourne Business Park will save on ‘food miles’
7 Oct 2005
Travelling for the weekly shopping contributes to congestion and pollution in the same way as commuting to work. With this in mind, Cambourne Business Park has arranged for the Cambridge Organic Food Company to deliver their organic boxes of fruit and vegetables to workers on the business park. As the company’s food is not only organic, but locally grown wherever possible, buying food from them can also help reduce ‘food miles’ – the distance food is transported from the grower to the consumer. Any reduction in ‘food miles’ will also help to cut pollution and congestion on our roads.
Lesley Scobell, Green Travel Co-ordinator for Cambourne Business Park says, “We want to encourage as many people as possible to use the organic box scheme – not only is organic food good for you, it tastes great and it’s grown in a more environmentally friendly way too. The Cambridge Organic Food Company supplies not just fruit and vegetables, but bread, eggs, cereals and a wide range of other foods so it really is possible to get most of what you need delivered to your office. That will leave people more time to come on one of our healthy walks in their lunch break, rather than queuing in the supermarket!”
