South Cambs teams win Cambourne Business Park latest Sporting Challenge!

5 Oct 2009

Teams of football and netball enthusiasts from companies on Cambourne Business Park have taken up the latest Cambourne Business Park sporting Challenge. The teams went head to head against rivals from a range of occupiers on the Park to win the coveted Football and Netball trophies.

“We had a great response to the Business Park 10k challenge in April this year when 12 teams from occupier companies took part so we decided to set a new challenge,” explains Lesley Scobell, Marketing Co-ordinator for Cambourne Business Park. “We promote both ‘green’ transport and healthy lifestyles on the Business Park. Our sporting challenges are a great way for employees to meet people from other companies on the business park and keep fit at the same time.

In a hard-fought contest, a team from South Cambridgeshire District Council won the Football Trophy, narrowly forcing a team from ip.access into second place. Lewis Hall, team captain for South Cambs side commented “I would like to thank the organisers for doing such a good job. The event gave us the excuse we needed to dust off our football boots and put them to use. We only won the tournament by 2 points which just goes to show how close the competition was. We look forward to future events and to defending our title.” Stefan Kaye from ip.access reflected that there may be some room for improvement in the ip.access team but added “a good time was had by all in one way or another. Thanks go to Lesley Scobell of the Business Park Marketing Office and her team for organising the whole do and for laying on food and drink for everyone afterwards, and also to the two refs who endured a certain amount of banter with good humour, but had nothing too contentious to do as all the teams played the competition in an excellent spirit.”

A team from South Cambs also scooped the Netball Trophy. “We were pleasantly surprised by the number of willing volunteers that came forward to represent SCDC in the netball tournament and even more delighted to have walked away with the trophy” reported Anna Efford, ”I know I can speak for all our players when I say we had a great workout and a good giggle. We look forward to defending our title next year.”

“All teams gave a fantastic performance and I’m sure enjoyed themselves too,” added Jane Lampshire, Sports Development Officer at South Cambridgeshire District Council who co-ordinated the evenings activities together with Lesley Scobell from Cambourne Business Park.
