Cambourne Business Park rewarded for commuting plans

Cambourne Business Park received top marks for its Green Travel policy at the second annual Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Workplace Travel Plan Award Ceremony which was held on Tuesday 12th September at Peterborough Town Hall.

Jacqui Wilkinson, Head of Sustainable Travel Initiatives the Department for Transport presented the awards to local employers who are encouraging healthy and environmentally friendly commuting.
Jacqui said, “Sustainable transport policies bring important benefits to organisations, their people and the wider community. I wish to congratulate these organisations for their leadership as they make meaningful progress in encouraging greater use of sustainable travel options.”
“Twenty three employers received awards,” said Richard Bettle, Travel Plan Advisor at the Travel for Work Partnership (TfW) who run the awards in collaboration with the Travelchoice Team in Peterborough.
The awards range from the 'Certificate of Commitment', where a company's senior management have signed up to produce a travel plan to ‘Travel Plan Excellence Award’, for businesses with mature travel plans that are now wedded into the way they do business. Cambourne Business Park and the University of Cambridge received the Travel Plan Excellence Award this year.
Lesley Scobell, Travel Co-ordinator at Cambourne Business Park said “We are delighted to win this award, the Business Park’s development team are committed to the principles of sustainable development and our workplace Travel Plan is very important. We are particularly pleased that our green travel initiatives have helped achieve a 10% reduction in drive alone trips by employees working at Cambourne Business Park.”
In 2007 the awards will be held in Cambridge. “2007 will see the celebration of ten years of the Travel for Work Partnership,” says Mark Webb, Development Manager at TFW. are planning to include the Awards ceremony into those celebrations.”
