BUSINESS PARK GETS CASH BOOST TO IMPROVE BIKE STANDS

12 Dec 2006

Cambourne Business Park was one of ten cycle friendly employers across Cambridgeshire to have been awarded a share of an £8,000 cash boost to provide good quality bike facilities for their staff.

Dr Wyn Hughes, Chair of the Travel for Work Partnership, handed over the money provided under the ‘Take-a-Stand’ initiative, to Lesley Scobell, the Business Park’s travel for Work Co-ordinator at a special ceremony held on Friday 8 December at Cambridge University Press.

‘Take a Stand’ distributes matched funding to employers wishing to improve the lot of cycling commuters by providing modern cycle parking. The Business Park is using the grant to upgrade the cycle stands at six of its office buildings. Lesley Scobell said “Our Bicycle User Group recommended changing the type of bike stands we provide. We are hoping that these improved facilities for cycle parking will encourage a greater number of employees to cycle to work which is one of the objectives of our Green Travel Plan.”

Other employers receiving money this year are Cotton Hall Foundation, Mills & Reeve, DTZ, Indigo Learning, Birdlife International, Brunswick School, Oakington Business Park, Marshall Aerospace and Colleges Nursery School.

Wyn Hughes said: “Travel for Work is delighted to raise the profile of cycling to employers in this way. We are here to support local employers who encourage staff to commute in healthy and environmentally friendly ways, whether by public transport, car sharing, walking and, of course, cycling. Take-a-Stand is just one of the many practical things we can do to help.”
